PURPOSE:To increase the oxygen gas absorbing capability and the life by installing a conductor which is in contact with a paste type cadmium negative plate, and directly connecting the conductor to or bringing it into contact with a negative terminal or the current collector of the negative plate. CONSTITUTION:A conductor 6 which is in contact with the side of a paste type cadmium negative plate 1 is installed. The conductor 6 is directly connected to or brought into contact with a negative terminal or the current collector of the negative plate 1. Metallic cadmium is produced on the surface of the negative plate 1 which is in contact with the conductor 6 during charge. The diffusion of oxygen to the metallic cadmium on the surface of the negative plate 1 is easier than the diffusion to that on the inside of the negative plate. The oxygen gas absorbing capability is thereby increased and quick charge is made possible.
