PURPOSE:To suppress the formation of high-boiling by-products by specifying the alcohol content in the recycled catalyst solution in the hydroformylation of an olefin using a specific rhodium catalyst through hydroformylation, distillation and recycling processes. CONSTITUTION:When an olefin is hydroformylated through i) the hydroformylation process where an olefin is hydroformylated with hydrogen and carbon monoxide in a catalyst solution containing Rh and an oxide of a trivalent organic phosphorus compound, ii) the distillation process where the reaction mixture is combined with the phosphorus compound and distilled to separate into the distillate containing aldehydes and the residue containing high-boiling substances and the recycling process where the high-boiling fraction is recycled together with a peroxide as a recycled catalyst solution, the alcohol content in the recycled catalyst solution is kept less than 14wt.% to inhibit the formation of the high-boiling by-products effectively. |
