PURPOSE:To provide a carcinostatic agent containing a compound selected from cinnamaldehyde, alpha-methyl-cinnamaldehyde, beta-furfuracrolein, 2-methoxy-5- acetyl-benzaldehyde, etc., as an active component. CONSTITUTION:The objective carcinostatic agent for oral or parenteral adminis tration contains a compound selected from cinnamaldehyde, alpha-methyl- cinnamaldehyde, beta-furfuracrolein, 2-methoxy-5-acetyl-benzaldehyde, 4-ethoxyi sophthalaldehyde and 4-chloro-6-methylisophthalaldehyde. The carcinostatic agent is characterized by higher activity against initial cancer cancerized by SV40 oncogenic virus than activity against transplanted cancer and has low toxicity. The amount of the active component in the carcinostatic agent is 0.3-15.0wt.% for oral administration or transmucosal absorption and 0.01-10wt.% for parenteral administration.
