PURPOSE:To obtain a photosensitive body high in electric chargeability characteristics, charge retentivity, sensitivity, residual potential resistance, and the like by incorporating in a photosensitive body a specified azo compound having an azo group combined with a coupler residue in the molecule. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive layer contains the compound having in the molecule the azo group combined with the coupler residue represented by formula I in which X is a group condensing with the benzene ring to form an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring or such a hetero ring; Y is H, alkyl, alkoxy, or halogen and n is an integer of 0-3, thus permitting the photosensitive body to be enhanced in chargeability characteristics, sensitivity characteristics, imaging performance, and weather resistance, and reduced in variances in sensitivity and chargeability characteristics and light fatigue due to repeated uses.
