PURPOSE:To increase the quantity of light of a light source device for electronic scopes without changing the electric power supplied to the device extensively, by not increasing the lamp current while a rotary filter closing period during which no lighting light is required, but increasing he lamp current while the filter is opened. CONSTITUTION:This light source device is provided with a lamp 10 which illuminates an object, rotary filter 16 for plane successive color image pickup, photoreceptor element 22 which detects the intensity of illumination of the object, diaphragm controlling circuit 26 which continuously controls a diaphragm in accordance with the intensity of illumination of the object, and lamp current controlling circuit 20 which increases or decreases the lamp current by the one stage when the diaphragm is opened or stopped to prescribed positions and increases the lamp current only when the filter 16 is opened when the lamp current exceeds a prescribed value. In other words, the lamp current is not increased during the period when the rotary filter 16 is closed during which no lighting light is required, but the lamp current is increased while the filter 16 is opened. Therefore, the quantity of light of this light source device can be increased without increasing the electric power supplied to the device so much.
