PURPOSE:To prevent the stress corrosion cracking of a coated pipe, by arranging a container opened to the interior of the coated pipe at a part thereof in a plenum part and filling said container with cesium. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of nuclear fuel pellets 3 are allowed to fill a coated pipe 2 composed of a zirconium base ally and a plenum part 6 is provided to the coated pipe 2 on the end part side thereof and both ends of the coated pipe 2 are hermetically sealed by end plugs 4, 5. At this time, the container 10 opened to the interior of the coated pipe 2 at a part thereof it arranged in the plenum part 6 and filled with cesium 9. At the time of the operation of a nuclear reactor, cesium 9 increases in its evaporation quantity with respect to iodine generated as corrosive FP as the temp. thereof rises and passes through a porous lid to issue to the outside of the container 10 and easily reacts with iodine to be changed to cesium iodine. By this method, the stress corrosion cracking of the coated pipe 2 is prevented.
