PURPOSE:To enable exact determination of the grain size of polymer particles by measuring a change in grain size with respect to electron ray irradiation time and extrapolating the irradiation time to zero hour at the time of measuring the grain size wit an electron microscope. CONSTITUTION:The impurities in a measurement system adhere to the particle surface and the particles fats and, therefore, a contamination preventive device such as trap using liquid nitrogen is provided at the time of measuring the grain size of the polymer particle of polystyrene, etc., with the electron microscope. Electron ray irradiation is then executed and the quartz regression curve of the electron ray irradiation time and reduction rate is determined as shown in the figure. The grain size decreases with time according to the electron ray irradiation time as is evident from the figure; further, the irradiation time may be extraporated to the zero hour from the relation between the electron ray irradiation time and the reduction rate of the grain size even if the grain size varies. Thus, the true grain size before the irradiation time is determined in either case.
