The current converter has a toroidal core housing (5) containing a secondary winding (8), with an attached feed pipe (4) for the signal lines (9) leading from the secondary winding (8) to an external measuring device. The core housing (5) is enclosed by a solid insulation jacket (10) and has a central window in which the primary current conductor (11) is fixed. The insulation jacket (10) has an inner layer (10a) of an absorbant material and an outer layer (106) of a gas-tight resident or quasi-resident insulation material and is applied over the surface of the core housing (5), the feed pipe (4), the fixing foot (3) and the part of the central window which supports the primary current conductor (11).
