Mfr. of multilayer, self-supporting shell, esp. a boat hull, consists of using strips of profiles all of the same I-section, alternately arranged rotated through 90 deg. so that the axis of one is perpendicular to the axis of its neighbours, then embedding these profiles in duroplastics material and laminating both sides with fibre-reinforced duroplastics sheet. The entire hull is formed on a skeleton or frame. Pref. the I-section is composed of two V-forms with their apexes joined. Pref. materials for the members are metals, esp. aluminium. |
