The circuit breaker includes a metal chassis (1) consisting of two symmetrical sides. The sides serve to support the other components. Insulators (2) are attached to cylindrical bars (12,13) extending between the sides. The first of these (12) supports the fixed pole (3) while the second supports the mobile pole (4). The mobile contact assembly is also attached to an insulating strut (5) mounted on a transverse shaft (14) parallel to the other cylindrical bars. Thus strut includes reinforcing elements (51,52). An energy storage system includes torsion bars (6) arranged to ensure a rapid separation of the contacts. A supply of gas is available within one contact for rapid extinction of the resulting arc. USE - Circuit breaker for use at medium voltage - 10's of kV, with currents of the order of 100's of amperes.
