PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a step in a part of a titled head in sliding contact with a magnetic tape by using a nonmagnetic material constituted of specific weight ratios of FeO, Cr, and Ni and very slight contents of other elements for a wear resistant member. CONSTITUTION:The wear resistant member of a shielding case part (a) which constitutes the right and left parts in sliding contact with the magnetic tape in the core part (b) of the magnetic head 1 is made of the nonmagnetic material constituted, by weight, of 0-40% FeO, Cr (wt.% value of FeX0.4+9)-30% and the balance Ni and trace contents of the other elements. The wear resis tance of the core part is improved to the abrasion loss equiv. to the abrasion loss of 'Permalloy(R)' and the generation of the step is prevented. Flawing of the tape is, therefore, obviated, magnetic conversion characteristics are im proved and the life of the magnetic head is extended. Since the core part (b) is provided with the coefft. of thermal expansion equiv. to the coefft. of thermal expansion of the wear-resistant 'Permalloy(R)', the magnetic head having the excellent magnetic permeability and shielding effect is obtd.
