PURPOSE:To quickly execute an operation for releasing an engagement of a ferrule which is being connected at present, by moving relatively the ferrule and a connecting means of the ferrule, prior to a switching connection of an optical fiber, and thereafter, executing a switching connection to a third ferrule. CONSTITUTION:A flange 9 is attached to the outside periphery of a sleeve 3 and a pressing member 10 is engaged to the flange 9, and in a state that a movement in the right and left directions of ferrules 2, 2 has been detained, the pressing member is moved a little in the right and left directions. As a result, the ferrule 2 and the sleeve 3 which have been coupled firmly become a state that its coupling can easily be released. Subsequently, after one ferrule 2 has been drawn out of the sleeve 3, the third separate ferrule is inserted into the sleeve 3 and the connection is switched. As for the switching and connecting work, the ferrule 2 and the sleeve 3 are moved temporarily and relatively, and thereafter, the switching connection is executed, therefore, it does not occur that unexpected large force is required for drawing out the ferrule 2. In such a way, the time for switching the connection of the third ferrule can be shortened.
