PURPOSE:To easily clean the surface of an Al material for caps and to improve the adhesion to a paint film by treating the material with a soln. type degreasing agent to remove rolling oil and by activating the surface by corona discharge. CONSTITUTION:An Al material for caps obtd. by cold rolling is treated with a soln. type degreasing agent such as an alkali-, acid- or solvent-based degreasing agent to reduce the amt. of rolling oil sticking to the material <=1mg/m<2>. The material having the very amt. of residual oil is further treated by corona discharge. Conditions during the corona discharge are properly selected so as to decompose and remove the residual rolling oil and to reduce the angle of contact water to <30 deg., preferably <=about 20 deg.. By the corona discharge, the surface of the material is activated. Thus, the adhesion of the material to a paint film is improved and the peeling of the paint film during subsequent necessary working such as drawing is prevented.
