PURPOSE:To determine the direction and range of search by using a level number and to efficiently execute the search by adding a pointer indicating the relation between upper and lower positions and a level number indicating a hierarchical level to a term. CONSTITUTION:Term data are constituted of combining a term 1, a pointer part 2 indicating the data of other terms on the upper and lower positions and a level number indicating the hierarchical levels of respective terms. A number to be monotonously changed in each hierarchy is assigned to the level number 21. In case of searching the upper and lower relation of two terms in said hierarchical structure, effective retrieving direction and range can be determined by comparing the level numbers of both the term data 20. Consequently, a result can be determined by one search of a restricted range and searching processing can be efficiently executed.
