PURPOSE:To accurately measure the concn. of a chlorine ion, by reducing the effect of uric acid coexisting in a specimen. CONSTITUTION:A diluent is portionwise injected in a cell, in which a specimen is portionwise injected, through a diluent portionwise injection nozzle 6 and the specimen is diluted by about 10 times and the pH of the specimen solution becomes 6.7 or less. When the cell in which the specimen solution 1 thus prepared is received is taken in a measuring system 20, a pump 7 is operated and the specimen solution 1 is sucked by a suction nozzle 2. An ion selective electrode 3 is equipped with a response membrane and this response membrane selectively responds to the chlorine ion in the specimen 1 and, by this selective response, the potential corresponding to the concn. of the chlorine ion is generated between the ion selective electrode 3 and a comparing electrode 4. The concn. of the chlorine ion is measured on the basis of said potential by a measuring part 5.
