PURPOSE:To properly level a strip cambered in the lateral direction and to make the amt. of plating deposited uniform in the lateral direction by measuring the chamber of the strip in the lateral direction during passing and by pressing down a leveling roll against the strip in accordance with the measured value. CONSTITUTION:A strip 1 is perpendicularly passed through a plating tank with electrifying rolls 3, 3', hold-down rolls 10 and sink roll 6. In the tank, the strip 1 is plated between electrodes 2 in a plating soln. and the plated strip 1 is drawn out after the amt. of plating is regulated with seal rolls 11. A camber measuring device 4 fitted with a laser telemeter is set in the vertical electroplating cell to measure the camber of the strip 1 in the lateral direction at a position above the surface of the plating soln. and closest to the electrodes 2. In accordance with the measured value, a leveling roll 5 is pressed against the strip 1 supported by a pass stabilizing roll 12. Thus, the strip 1 cambered in the lateral direction is leveled and the amt. of plating deposited with the electrodes 2 is made uniform.
