PURPOSE:To form a photosensitive body smooth on the surface and superior in hardness by coating a conductive substrate with a fine photosensitive powder using an autohardenable resin binder, mechanically smoothing its surface, and further hardening it. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive layer made of the fine photosensitive powder and the autohardenable binder is formed by coating the surface of the conductive substrate to a uniform thickness with a coating fluid prepared by well dispersing said fine powder into said binder. Then, its surface is subjected to the mechanical surface smoothing treatment, such as pressing it with a mirror- finished roller, to finish its surface to a smoothness degree same as the mirror face of the roller, and after that, the photosensitive layer is hardened through the autohardenability by heating, or exposing to ultraviolet rays or air, thus permitting the photosensitive layer having both of excellent smoothness of <=0.1mum surface roughness, and excellent hardness of about 6H in terms of the pencil hardness to be easily manufactured.
