PROCESS FOR PRODUCING N-(2-/2-HYDROXY-3-PHENOXY-PROPYL/-AMINOETHYL)-ISOBUTYRAMIDE AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS COMPRISING SUCH ACTIVE INGREDIENT

Compsn. for topical admin. comprises as active ingredient N-(2-(2-hydroxy-3-phenoxypropyl) aminoethyl)isobutyramide, having the formula (I) in racemic (R,S) or laevorotatory optically active (S) form, or an acid-addition salt of such a cpd., together with a suitable diluent or carrier. - The (S)-form of cpd. (I), or a salt of this form apart from the oxalate or 2,3:4,6-di-O-isopropylidene -alpha-D-xylo-hexulosofuranos onate salt, are new. (I) and the excluded salts are described in G.B. Pat. No. 1455116. The pref. active ingredient is the (S) form of (I) and its salts e.g. the hydrochloride, hydrobromide, citrate and D-gluconate. The compsn. may take the form e.g. of an ointment, cream, gel, salve, lotion, spray or aerosol, and may contain e.g. 0.1-5 wt.% of active ingredient. It may contain other active ingredients, esp. topically active steroids. A dispenser e.g. a deformable tube, may contain e.g. 5-250g of the compsn. - To prepare the (S) form of (I), the may be reacted with N-(2-aminoethyl)isobutyramide.
