PURPOSE:To prevent such possibilities that a conveyor chain comes off a sprocket and the conveying pitch of a conveyed material is variously changed from occurring by detecting the position of a projection adjacent to another projection when a measuring start is commanded by this projection. CONSTITUTION:When a preceding dock 2A comes into contact with a limit switch 7, a power source is turned off by a signal out of this limit switch 7, light is projected from each phototube 8, and this light is received a light receiver 9. In this state, with the movement of a conveyor chain 1 toward an arrow, a succeeding dock 2B moves as intercepting the light projected out of each conveyor 8. And, the lamp 11 set up on a control panel 10 in response to this light receiver 9 is light by a signal out of the light receiver 9 so far receiving the light intercepted by the dock 2B. When the preceding dock 2A comes into contact with a limit switch 6, the power source is turned off by a command out of this limit switch 6, and the projection of light out of each phototube 8 is stopped. Thus, a coefficient of extension in the conveyor chain 1 is obtained.
