PURPOSE:To ensure the effective application of a dead space and to realize a compact tape recorder by storing the electrical parts to be mounted on a substrate set along the inner surface of a cassette holder in the dead space secured on the upper surface side of the cassette holder. CONSTITUTION:When a cassette holder 22 is closed, a reel set in a video cassette 10 is loaded to the reel rotary shafts 48 and 48 set at the side of a main body 20. At the same time, a cover 10B of the cassette 10 is opened and a tape can be loaded. in this case, the electrical parts 34A, 34B and 34C to be mounted on a substrate 36 are stored in a space (dead space) 54 which is not needed when the cover 10B is opened and closed. Thus the dead space can be effectively applied.
