<p>TiCl3 is purified by (a) drying in air at 100 degrees C, nb) further drying in CO at 250-750 degrees C, (c) roasting the prod. at 400-750 degrees C for 0.5-2 hrs. in the presence of CO and Cl2, (d) sepg. volatile impurities, and (e) recovering purified TiO2 and TiCl4. Impurity metals, such as V and Fe cpds. are removed. Method is esp. useful in treating TiCl3 obtd. in the extraction of Ti values from an ore such as ilmenite.</p> |
