PURPOSE:To prevent ink from not discharging and to improve the efficiency of ink usage amount by controlling the interval of idle discharging operations for discharging ink from a recording head out of a recording area according to atmospheric condition. CONSTITUTION:An idle discharging operation is performed by controlling a recording head driver 21 and a motor driver 22 by a controller 28 on the basis of temperature and moisture information obtained from atmospheric temperature detecting means 20, atmospheric moisture detecting means 23 and recording head temperature detecting means 15. That is, since time in which the viscosity of ink in nozzles of the head 2 alters to ink discharging limit viscosity rhoK varies depending upon the temperature TA(t), the atmospheric environmental temperature TB( deg.C) and atmospheric environmental moisture w(%), the interval of idle discharging operations conducted after a plurality of recording operations are executed by reciprocating a carriage 1 which places the head 2 is varied on the basis of the temperatures TA, TB and the moisture (w) by utilizing the time difference in which the viscosity of the ink attains the viscosity rhoK. |
