PURPOSE:To enter incident light into an optical fiber efficiently by heating and drawing one end of a large-diameter rod type waveguide which has core- clad structure into a fiber type waveguide, and arranging a light emitting element at the core part at the other end. CONSTITUTION:The end surface of the glass rod 2 is drawn while heated, and then a glass fiber 3 is formed and its section is similar to the section of the rod 2. Further, the light emitting element 1 is adhered to the core part 2a of the rod with a proper adhesive. At this time, the adhesion of the element 1 is facilitated when the diameter of the rod 2 is set to several cm. In the coupling device which is thus constituted, the section of the fiber 3 is similar to the section of the rod 2, so projection light from the element 1 is propagated in the fiber 3 as it is. The light is therefore incident efficiently on the optical fiber even without any optical system for convergence. |
