PURPOSE:To prevent unnatural color even with the use of an output of an interline CCD having a folding characteristic by providing a linearization circuit restoring the folding characteristic of the CCD output into the linear characteristic. CONSTITUTION:An output signal from a photosensing section 1 is fed to a linearizing circuit 10 via a vertical transfer section 2 and a horizontal transfer section 5. The linearizing circuit 10 corrects a picture signal having the folding characteristic outputted from the horizontal transfer section 5 to output a picture signal having the linear characteristic over the entire range.
