PURPOSE:To detect a synchronizing word pattern independently of an input data by outputting selectively 1st and 2nd 9-bit code words identifying uniquely a synchronizing point in a 9-bit digital word flow. CONSTITUTION:An input data of an 8-bit data word is fed to a code word reference table 12 and a code word digital sum reference table 14 through a line 10. The output of the word reference table 12 to each input data word is one of two predetermined 9-bit code words selecting the DC component by coding to zero definitely. The selection of which code word to be taken is controlled by a symbol bit control signal from a digital sum fluctuation register 24. The selected 9-bit code word is outputted to a parallel/serial converter 18 via a data/synchronizing multiplexer 16.
