It is often necessary to have to process a washer, snap ring or similar small part together with the screw. Both parts are to be pre-mounted in the screwdriver, and, moreover, the screwdriver is to have small dimensions so that it can also be used in poorly accessible places or to be able to drive in simultaneously a plurality of screws lying close beside one another using a plurality of screwdrivers. The screwdriver has a parallel gripper (6) with two gripper jaws (56, 58) which are displaceable parallel to the apparatus axis. Arranged at the front end of the gripper jaws (56, 58) are grooves (112, 114) in which a small part (120) is held. The screw (122) is then passed through the small part and set on the workpiece. Thereafter, the gripper jaws are opened and the screw is screwed in fully. The screwdriver is applied in fully automatic operation for assembly purposes. It is also possible to drive in pins, nails or rivets, if an impact device is provided in place of the screwing spindle (70). <IMAGE>
