PURPOSE:To miniaturize the overall dimension of a fuel cell installation by storing combustion exhaust gas of fuel in a pressurized storage tank as a replacement gas and supplying the abovementioned gas from the pressurized storage tank to a reaction gas system when operation of a cell is started or stopped. CONSTITUTION:Combustion exhaust gas produced in a combustion device 63 is boosted by a compressor 65 after being cooled through a cooler 64 to be stored in a pressurized storage tank 66. The combustion exhaust gas thus stored in the pressurized storage tank 66 under high pressure condition is reduced in its pressure and supplied in a fuel system 2 as a replacement gas for a fuel cell through an exhaust gas feed valve 67 which is manually or automatically controlled in its open/close operation when the fuel cell is started or stopped so that the prescribed gas replacement can be carried out. Owing to this contrivance, volume required for the pressurized tank 66 can be remarkably decreased in comparison with the case for storing the gas under a pressure close to the formal pressure. |
