PURPOSE:To obtain non-oxide ceramic powder in high efficiency, by mixing an oxide of an element capable of forming a carbide or nitride with a solution of an organic polymeric substance, coagulating the organic polymeric substance and baking the mixture in a specific atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:An oxide of an element capable of forming a carbide or a nitride (e.g. Al2O3) or a compound of said element forming an oxide by thermal decomposition (e.g. aluminum hydroxide) is mixed with a solution of an organic polymeric substance (e.g. dimethylformamide solution of polyacrylonitrile). The mixed solution is introduced into a solvent active to coagulate the organic polymeric substance (e.g. water) to effect the coagulation of the organic polymeric substance and form a porous coagulum composed of the organic polymeric substance and an inorganic oxide or a compound forming an oxide by thermal decomposition. The porous composition is baked in a specific atmosphere (e.g. nitrogen gas or rare gas) to obtain the objective non-oxide ceramic powder. |
