PURPOSE:To improve the oxygen absorption of a cylindrical enclosed alkaline storage battery with a paste type negative electrode in the separator and thereby facilitate rapid discharge by conferring electrical conductivity on the electrode. CONSTITUTION:Electrical conductivity is conferred in the region of the surface in contact with a paste type negative cadmium electrode 2 of a separator 1. This increases the conductivity of the whole surface of the electrode 2, so that even if a crack occurs during whirlpool processing, there is no loss of conductivity in the separator 1, and the electrical conductivity of the whole surface of the negative electrode 2 is maintained. As a result, sufficient cadmium metal, for example, is produced on the surface of negative electrode 2 during charging, and the absorption of oxygen produced by a positive electrode 3 during overcharging can thus be increased. It is thus possible to improve the rapid charging characteristics of the cell. |
