PURPOSE:To improve the yield and to reduce edge cracks by designing an ingot section into an octagonal shape formed by chamfering four corners of a rectangular shape and casting the ingot into a shape whose dimensions meet a specific inequality and hot rolling the into after planing all of the longitudinal octagonal faces of the ingot. CONSTITUTION:The section of an ingot is designed to have an octagonal shape formed by chamfering four corners of a rectangular shape; the ingot is cast to have a section meeting the flowing inequality, where, a thickness, chamfering depth in the width direction, and length of side edge straight part are denoted by ts, C and A, respectively. Then, the ingot is hot rolled after planing all of the 8 faces in the longitudinal direction. By this method, no edge crack is generated and a trimming amount in the width direction is made to be zero, so that the yield is improved. |
