What are proposed are a method and apparatuses for the harvesting of coarse-stemmed crop, by means of which the stalks 17 remaining in the ground after reaping are broken, pulped or pressed round in such a way that they can no longer damage the rubber tyres 1 of the harvesting machine or of transport vehicles. This can be brought about by arranging under or behind the reaping apparatus 10 beating or pressing-round implements 16 which destroy the upper part of the stalks 17 in such a way that they become pliable. <IMAGE>
