PURPOSE:To permit monitoring of the viscosity of engine oil by detecting the oil pressure which is negative with respect to the crank case pressure in a piping from an oil screen to an oil pump. CONSTITUTION:A pressure difference arises in general between the upper stream and the down stream when viscous fluid flows in a pipe and, for example, the equation Q=piD/128mu XP/l holds (where, D: the diameter of the pipe, mu: the viscosity of the liquid, P: a differential pressure, l: the length of the pipe, Q=flow rate of liquid). The viscosity of the liquid is thereby determined if the differential pressure is measured while the flow rate is constant. A pressure detector 4 is, thereupon, provided before the oil pump 3 and the pressure at the constant oil flow rate is detected, by which the monitoring of the viscosity of the oil is permitted.
