PURPOSE:To enhance resistance against failure in dry type intermittent machining of high-hardness hardened steel by preparing a mixture from boron nitride in cubic crystals and a binder containing aluminium or titanium alloy, and by sintering the mixture under extra-high pressure to produce a high hardness tool, to be used for the purpose. CONSTITUTION:Sintered material for high hardness tool is obtained through extra-high pressure sintering of a mixture consisting of 50-75 wt% CBN and binder as remainder. This binder contains Al of 20-50 wt% and one or more of TiNz, TiCz, (Ti, M)Nz, etc., where M is transfer metal element of groups IVa, Va, VIa, and z is in range of 0.5<=z<=0.85, and further it contains tungsten in either mode of Ti compound or WC, wherein total tungsten content shall be 4-40 wt%. The mixture is sintered under extra-high pressure and at high temp. to provide a sintered material for high hardness tool, which is used for dry machining of hardened steel. In this case, resistance against failure is excellent in such field of application as intermittent machining of hardened steel.
