PURPOSE:To obtain sterilized water, by adding a water-soluble compound having a resonance structure to water and passing water through an electrolytic cell while applying voltage to said cell to take out the same. CONSTITUTION:A water-soluble org. compound having a resonance structure such as a carboxylic acid, amino acid or amine type compound is added to water such as tap water or well water in an amount of 200-100,000ppm and alcohol is further added thereto to guide the mixture to an electrolytic cell. Voltage is applied to the electrolytic cell so that the redox potential of water after passing through the electrolytic cell becomes -600-700mv. The treated water is taken out as sterilized water. By this method, the sterilized water can be safely made at low cost.
