PURPOSE:To enable the development of a photosensitive material with high sensitivity by carrying said material within a long and slender developing bath which is arranged from the inlet part to the outlet part of said material, and by supplying a developer to said bath along the direction of carrying said material, followed by throwing away it, and by carrying said material at a speed faster than the theoretical moving speed of the developer. CONSTITUTION:The photosensitive material P is carried within the long and slender developing bath 28 which is arranged from the inlet part 42 to the outlet part 44 of said material P, and the developer is supplied to the bath 28 along the direction of carrying the material P and thrown away, and the material P is carried at the speed faster than the theoretical moving speed of the developer. Namely, as the developer supplied to the bath 28 is thrown away, the fresh developer is always supplied to the material P, and the bath 28 is in contact with air only at the inlet part 42 and the outlet part 44, and the intermediate part of the bath 28 is not in contact with air. Thus, the development with the high sensitivity is carried out, without bring fatigued the developer by air oxidation. Especially, the sensitivity of the developer is improved without bringing uneven development by carrying the material P at the speed faster than the speed of carrying the developer.
