PURPOSE:To enable highly accurate control of an internal combustion engine immediately after the mounting of an oxygen, sensor, by varying an atmosphere exposed to a sensor alternately between that with the excess air factor larger than 1 and that with the factor less than 1. CONSTITUTION:A burner 10 which can change excess air factor lambda, a combustion tube 20 and a mounting section 40 of a sensor 30 to be processed are arranged. The burner 10 is connected to a sub air supply pipe 70 provided with a main air supply pipe 50 and a solenoid valve 60 and a sub gas supply pipe 100 provided with a main gas supply pipe 80 and a solenoid valve 90. Air is supplied to the air supply pipes 50 and 70 from a compressor while propane gas is supplied to the gas supply pipes 80 and 100 from a gas cylinder. Then, the valves 60 and 90 are opened or closed alternately with a timer 110 at a specified time interval to alter the excess air factor of a combustion gas of the burner 10, thereby exposing a sensor 30 to a lean gas (e.g. lambda-1.02-1.30) and to a rich gas (e.g. lambda=0.70-0.98). |
