PURPOSE:To economically obtain the pellet of crude zinc oxide having excellent strength and grain size without using any binder by controlling the content of free water in the fine powder of crude zinc oxide to a specified value, heating the fine powder is a rotary kiln to a specified temp. to dry the powder, and then heating and baking the powder at a high temp. CONSTITUTION:The content of free water in the fine powder of crude zinc oxide contg. a large amt. of water and taking the shape of clay is transiently controlled to 15-25%, and the powder is then charged in a rotary kiln and heated to 250 deg.C in >=60min and drying. The dried powder is heated and baked at >=800 deg.C. By this method, the baked material is not repulverized, and the pellet having >=3kg/cm<2> compressive strength and 1-20mm grain size is obtained. Namely, when the powder is granulated under such conditions, granulating, drying, and baking are carried out in the rotary kiln without using any binder, and the crude zinc oxide pellet is obtained without causing the repulverization and fusion of the pellet.
