PURPOSE:To freely move a scale, by providing a switch means setting the display origin point of a ruler and a display control means setting a display value in accordance with the position set by said switch means. CONSTITUTION:This ruler has a switch part 1 setting the display origin point of the ruler, a display control part 3 setting a display value in accordance with the position set by said switch part 1, a liquid crystal display part 7 displaying the display value and a liquid crystal driving part 5 driving said display part. The switch part 1 is arranged at the 10mm-order unit of the ruler to determine the origin of the ruler. A switch signal 2 performs control so that the set origin is set to 0 by the display control part 3 and display values can be displayed so as to increase with respect to the left and right. A display signal 4 is inputted to the liquid crystal driving part 5 to be converted to a liquid crystal driving signal 6 which is, in turn, displayed on the liquid crystal display part 7 in a numerical value. Further, display of 10mm or less is displayed in a fixed display scale 8.
