A process for the removal and treatment of trace quantities of hazardous hydrocarbonaceous compounds from an aqueous stream which comprises the steps of: (a) contacting the aqueous stream with an adsorbent to remove a substantial portion of hydrocarbonaceous compounds therefrom; (b) contacting spent adsorbent from step (a) with an elution solvent to remove the hydrocarbonaceous compounds therefrom thereby regenerating the adsorbent; (c) contacting the resulting elution solvent containing the hydrocarbonaceous compounds and hydrogen with a hydrogenation catalyst in a hydrotreating reaction zone; (d) contacting the effluent from the hydrotreating reaction zone with an aqueous scrubbing solution; and (e) introducing a resulting admixture into a separation zone to provide a hydrotreated elution solvent suitable for recycle and an aqueous product stream containing the water soluble portion of the hydrotreated products from step (c).
|
