PURPOSE:To obtain the titled inhibitor, consisting of a specific quaternary nitrogen atom-containing surfactant and capable of reducing a change of infection with viral diseases, especially AIDS virus which may occur in contact of infected persons with uninfected ones in public bathhouses, such as soap land or public bath. CONSTITUTION:A viral infection inhibitor, consisting of a quaternary nitrogen atom-containing surfactant expressed by the formula (R1 is organic group having an 8-22C alkyl group; R2 is alkyl, aralkyl, acylaminoalkyl, etc.; R3 and R4 are 1-4C alkyl, 2-4C hydroxyalkyl or 7-14C aralkyl; X is anionic counter ion) (especially preferably R1 and R2 are 10-16C alkyl; R3 and R4 are 1-3C alkyl; X is halogen, hydroxyl, etc.) and useful for public bathhouses. This inhibitor is more effective with longer contact time and effects thereof are enhanced with relatively higher temperature.
