PURPOSE:To simplify the retrieval procedure of a connection position and to reduce the retrieval time of a station to be monitored by transmitting a frame provided with a physical station address counter area advanced at every passing of a station to be monitored and inquiring about a station address of the station to be monitored based on the physical station address. CONSTITUTION:A monitoring station 1 gives '1' to a physical station address counter area 7d of a monitor frame field 7 and sends a frame. A station 2b to be monitored receiving said frame advances the physical station address counter area 7d by one, sends the frame to the station 2a to be monitored and stores the physical station address of its own station as '1'. The physical station address is recognized by stations 2a-2c to be monitored by repeating the similar processing. Then the monitoring station 1 inquires about the station address to each of the stations 2a 2c to be monitored. Thus, the connection position of the station to be monitored is retrieved even in a short retrieval time and the connection position at system change is retrieved easily, as well.
