PURPOSE:To start printing upon feeding of sheet and to eliminate necessity of feeding data by providing a second selecting means for selecting sheet feed port according to second preset priority if the sheet feed port is not selected by a second selecting means. CONSTITUTION:A print engine 4 incorporates a data processor and connected with an external sheet feed unit 5 and a sorter 6. A control section feeds initial information to respective cassette upon throw-in of power source. Thereafter, update information is fed upon occurrence of variation in the information. Cassette information includes sheet size, existence of sheet and mounting of respective cassettes 51, 52, 53. Priority is set for respective cassettes, and when any one cassette is mounted and a sheet exists, available cassette is searched according to the priority. In case of cassette empty or sheet empty, mounted cassettes are searched according to same priority. In this case, available cassettes are not searched but only mounting of cassette is searched. |
