PURPOSE:To enable high-speed printing and prevent the user from having a sense of incompatibility even in a printing operation through manual typing, by providing a printing-controlling means with a bidirectional shortest-route printing function, and printing in the final printing line by moving a carriage position to the left end of the final printing line only when the final printing line is detected. CONSTITUTION:In a line in which printing is being conducted, printing information is printed out on a paper 40 in the order of the shortest moving distance under a bidirectional shortest-route printing function. Only at the time of moving to the final line of the printing information, the operation of the bidirectional shortest-route printing function is stopped, and a carriage 70 is always moved to the left end of the final line so that the printing information for the last line is completely printed by forward printing. Thus, the position at which the carriage 70 is stopped upon completion of the printing operation is constantly the position at which all the printing information is completely printed put. Therefore, when printing information is subsequently inputted from a keyboard 120 by manual typing, real-time printing can be immediately performed without need for a useless movement of the carriage 70.
