PURPOSE:To suppress the increase of the capacities of the firmware and the software of a host device, by reading out and synthesizing diagnosing data from the ROM of an arbitrary peripheral device and sending it to the host device when an operation relating to the arbitrary device out of plural peripheral devices is performed. CONSTITUTION:In the start up operation of a computer system, an instruction common to all of the peripheral device being connected to the host device 1 is stored in a storage device 2. The instructions proper to magnetic disk units DKU 6 and 7, and a printer PR 8 are stored in ROMs 61, 71 and 81, respectively. The host device 1 reads out a proper instruction required for the rise of the device from the ROM of the device at the beginning of the rise operation of a specific device. Then, the host device makes the device execute a sequence of rise operations by synthesizing the instruction with a common instruction stored in the storage device 2, and returning a rise instruction to the device. Therefore, it is possible to perform the operation of a new device immediately when the function of the peripheral device, etc., is changed, and to suppress the increase of the capacity of the firmware or the software of the host device. |
