PURPOSE:To shorten a time required for adjusting an audio head height by simultaneously recording a check signal and reproducing the check signal so as to check the level of the check signal. CONSTITUTION:If a rotary erasing operation switch is turned on and a rotary erasing oscillation circuit 2 is operated with maintaining reproduction from an audio head 4 after a signal level is confirmed, a erasion current is permitted to flow to a rotary erasion head 3a and the checking signal is erased only with respect to a video track 17 among the check signals which have been recorded in a fixed erasion head 2. If the erasion width 18 of the rotary erasion head 3a intrudes into an audio track 16 to be overlapped at that time, the signal level reproduced from the audio head 4 drops, and the height of the audio head 4 is identified to be dislocated, whereby the height of the audio head 4 is adjusted in a way that the check signal level to be reproduced becomes equal to the check signal level before the rotary erasion head 3a is operated.
