PURPOSE:To give a recording function of counter values, etc., to a magnetic tape cassette without any especially provided complicated circuit, by installing a data recording means to the cassette and reading and writing data of count values, etc., by means of the data recording means when the cassette is inserted or removed. CONSTITUTION:A data recording means 2 and data storing means 10 which records data of a magnetic tape cassette 1 in the data recording means 2 when the cassette is inserted and removed are installed to the cassette 1. Accordingly, the data of the cassette 1 can be stored in the data storing means 10 and, at the same time, displayed on a displaying means 11 when the cassette 1 is inserted. When the cassette 1 is removed, moreover, the data can be recorded in the data recording means 2 from the data storing means 10. Thus the position, remaining quantity, etc., of the tape can be accurately known.
