PURPOSE:To prevent a magnetic head carriage from being damaged and the positioning precision of the magnetic head from being getting out of order at a rest time and at a transportation time by providing a solenoid fixing the shift of the magnetic head carriage. CONSTITUTION:The solenoid 12 and a spring 13 fixing the magnetic carriage 6 so as not to be shifted are provided or a floppy disk device equipped with a linear pulse motor for shifting between magnetic recording tracks the magnetic head carriage 6 to which the magnetic head is fitted for reading and writing magnetic recording information. Thus, the magnetic head carriage 6 can be fixed even if a strong impulse is added to the device in a state that a power source is not supplied, whereby there is an effect which prevents the damage of the magnetic head and inaccurate positioning.
