OPTICAL FIBER GYROSCOPE AND ITS MANUFACTURE

PURPOSE:To eliminate the temperature difference of an optical propagation path and to prevent an equivalent angular speed error due to the temperature difference from occurring by winding optical fibers where clockwise and counterclockwise light beams are propagated adjacently to each other. CONSTITUTION:A single-mode optical fiber 10 where a rotational angular speed OMEGAis to be measured begins to be wound at its lengthwise center 30 and is wound around a rotary shaft 30 at right angles. At this time, optical fibers where incident light from a clockwise incidence end 1 and incident light from a counterclockwise incidence end 2 are propagated are wound adjacently to each other. Consequently, the temperature difference between the propagation paths for the clockwise and counterclockwise light beams can be eliminated. The equivalent input angular speed error due to time variation in the temperature variation is eliminated and an optical fiber gyroscope having excellent drift stability is obtained.
