PURPOSE:To exclude visual observation and experience and to index the detected results by injecting a flocculant into a suspension in the agitated region between a light emitter and a light receiver, agitating the suspension, and detecting the flocculating condition of the liq. mixture of the suspension and the flocculant from the quantity of the received light. CONSTITUTION:A flocculant is injected into the agitated suspension, the agitating speed of the suspension is then decreased, the quantity of the light received by the light receiver from the light emitter through the liq. mixture of the suspension and the flocculant is measured, or agitation is stopped after the quantity of received light is leveled and the quantity of received light is measured. The flocculating condition of the liq. mixture is detected from the former or the former and latter quantity of received light, and the optimum injection rate of the flocculant is determined in accordance with the flocculating condition. By this method, the visual observation and experience of a tester can be excluded, the detected results can be indexed, and the injection rate of the flocculant is optimized. Furthermore, the precision in optimizing the injection rate can be improved by the detection of both quantities of the received light.
