PURPOSE:To improve the waste coolant treating capacity to the utmost by adding an acid to demulsify the waste coolant, then adding magnesium oxide, etc., along with a base to flocculate the waste coolant, and then adding a high molecular flocculant. CONSTITUTION:An acid is added to demulsify the waste coolant, then magnesium dust consisting essentially of about 50% magnesium oxide, preferably the magnesium oxide generated by the inoculation of magnesium in a casting process, about 20% iron oxide, and about 10% silicon oxide is added, and a base is further added. The added magnesium oxide is difficulty soluble in water, a part of the oxide is flocculated as the hydroxide floc, and soluble COD is removed during flocculation. A high molecular flocculant is then added to enlarge the floc. Accordingly, a stabilized treating capacity can be secured irrespective of the kinds of waste coolants by adding magnesium oxide, and the content of the solids can be dratically reduced after flocculation and separation.
